In the book '108 Rock Star Guitars,' photographer Lisa S. Johnson set out to capture just that - fabled guitars owned by famous musicians. The book is full of close-up shots of classic guitars owned by rock gods like Jimmy Page, Keith Richards and Slash.

But it's more than just a guitar - Howe called his instrument "Mr. Gibson" and often bought it its own seat on transatlantic flights, says Johnson. After all, he wouldn't want to risk anything happening to the guitar he's used for nearly every Yes album.

Johnson asked to take a photo of the original guitar, Kramer admitted tearfully that he sold it in order to buy drugs. "It went up a hole in my arm."
