Richard Goodall, the paperboy hat-wearing āsinging janitorā from Indiana, won over Americaās heart with his earnest performances and powerhouse vocals as he sang Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You," Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" and Journey's "Faithfully" in Season 19. The Sept. 24, 2024, finale was a full-circle moment for Goodall, who performed the song that started it all, āDonāt Stop Believinā,ā with the band Journey.

Season 1:Singer Bianca Ryan, 11 at the time of her win. Memorable moment: her audition piece, "And I Am Telling You (I'm Not Going)" from "Dreamgirls" made it into YouTube's top 100 music videos of all time and prompted Simon Cowell to call her "potentially one of the best singers I've ever heard in my life."

Season 2: Terry Fator, a Texas-bred Singer, impressionist and ventriloquist. Memorable moment: Fator didn't get a very warm welcome when he came onstage for his audition. Judge David Hasselhoff muttered, "Oh, no, not a ventriloquist." Needless to say, the Hoff soon ate his words.

Season 3:Neal E. Boyd, an opera singer from Missouri. Memorable moment: Boyd belted out the Puccini standard "Nessun Dorma" (made famous by Luciano Pavarotti at the 1990 World Cup tournament) at his audition and blew the judges away. He died on June 10, 2018, of heart failure and kidney disease.

Season 4:Country singer Kevin Skinner from Mayfield, Kentucky. Memorable moment: He auditioned with the Garth Brooks song "If Tomorrow Never Comes."

Season 5: Mississippi soul singer Michael Grimm beat out kid vocalist Jackie Evancho for that season's title. Memorable moment: Grimm made it to the finals with Randy Newman's "You Can Leave Your Hat On," despite suffering from a dehydration-related illness the night of the semifinals.

Season 6: Sinatra-style singer Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. of Logan County, West Virginia. Memorable moment: Getting the green light from the judges as he stood onstage in the only clothes he had left after a thief broke into his car (and his home at the time).

Memorable moment: Two of the dogs walked wheelbarrow-style across the judges' table during the finals.

Season 8:Dancer Kenichi Ebina was raised in Tokyo and moved to Connecticut as a young adult. The 38-year-old wowed the judges and audience all season with his martial-arts infused choreography. Memorable moment: His video-game-inspired audition, in which he interacted with characters on the screen. And by interacting, we mean delivering roundhouse kicks to their heads.

Season 16:Magician Dustin Tavella was crowned the Season 16 winner following "the closest vote ever," host Terry Crews revealed. Tavella becomes the third magician to take the crown, following Season 9 winner Mat Franco and Season 13 winner Shin Lim.Ā
