A look back at 'Beverly Hills, 90210': See the cast, then and now

Original actors from the series reunited for the 2019 reboot, "BH90210," canceled after just one season.

Ian Ziering, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling and Christine Elise McCarthy (pictured here) returned to the show, along with Gabrielle Carteris, Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty and Brian Austin Green, to all play fictionalized versions of themselves in the six-episode summer series.

The show began in 1990 as a fish-out-of-water story about a pair of fraternal twins whose family relocates from Minnesota to Los Angeles. Shannen Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh, was the most well-known cast member thanks to her roles in the TV series "Our House" and the1988 cult movie "Heathers." She was also the first major cast member to leave "90210." Doherty was written out during Season 4 after some behind-the-scenes drama, and her character left to study drama in London.

After doing a number of TV movies and films like "Mallrats" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," Doherty, right, returned to TV in 1998 with WB's "Charmed," about three sisters who happen to be witches. The series reunited her with "90210" producer Aaron Spelling but once again, there was on-set drama and Doherty was written out in the third season.

During an interview with Chelsea Handler, Doherty praised husband Kurt Iswarienko, whom she married in 2011, with putting his own career on the back burner to care for her during her illness. In 2018, she revealed that the property where they married was destroyed in the California wildfires.

Doherty filed for divorce in April 2023, and the couple finalized their split on July 12, 2024, one day before Doherty's death.

Doherty originally had not signed on to participate in the reboot but changed her mind following the death of former cast member Luke Perry.

In 2016, Doherty found her way back into the headlines by documenting her breast-cancer diagnosis and treatment through her Instagram account. While she revealed in 2017 that her cancer was in remission, she announced her stage 4 diagnosis in 2020.

After a nearly 10-year battle, Doherty died of cancer on July 13, 2024. "The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie," Doherty's publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement.

Jason Priestley was cast as Brandon Walsh, Brenda's earnest twin brother and an aspiring journalist. A stand-up guy, he helped his friends through many a personal crisis.

Brandon's most serious relationship was with his sister's friend, Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth), though the two stopped just shy of the altar. Priestley left the show in Season 9, and Brandon was written out as traveling the world for work. He did return as a guest star, however.

In 2005, Priestley married makeup artist Naomi Lowde, with whom he has two children, Ava and Dashiell.

In May 2019, he promoted the "BH90210" reboot.

Though Doherty was the best-known cast member when the show began, Jennie Garth quickly gained equal fame and carried "90210" after she left. Her character, Kelly Taylor, evolved from the spoiled daughter of an addict to a become a better person. However, she had to go through hell to get there, including drug addiction and a rape she later avenged at gunpoint.

Garth joined the cast of "Dancing with the Stars" for Season 5 in 2007, following "90210" castmate Ian Ziering, who competed in the ballroom during Season 4.

Garth has been married three times: first to musician Daniel Clark from 1994 to 1996. Five years later, she wed "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli (seen here) with whom she had three daughters before they divorced in 2013. In 2015, she married actor Dave Abrams. Though he filed for divorce in 2018, the two have since reconciled.

Garth has maintained her friendship with co-star Tori Spelling, who played West Beverly High classmate Donna Martin. In 2014, they re-teamed for an ABC Family series, "Mystery Girls." Four years later, during the 2018 California wildfires, Spelling publicly thanked Garth for welcoming her family and pets into her home after they were forced to evacuate.

Spelling, the daughter of 90210 executive producer Aaron Spelling, landed the role of Donna Martin after smaller parts on his other shows, such as "Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island." Martin's desire to remain a virgin led to drama with on-and-off boyfriend David Silver (Brian Austin Green) in high school. They eventually reunited in the final season, moving in together and later marrying in the series' 2000 finale.

In 2008, she published a memoir, "Stori Telling," in which she recounts her difficult relationship with her parents and her love life – and yes, her nose job.

After a two-year marriage to actor Charlie Shanian, Spelling wed Dean McDermott in May 2006. The two, who have five kids together, filed for divorce in March 2024.

The ups and downs of Spelling and McDermott's marriage were documented in the 2014 LIfetime reality show "True Tori," including the aftermath of his affair.

"True Tori" also documented the couple's parenting adventures. After getting past their 2014 marital problems, Spelling and McDermott later welcomed their fifth child and third son in March 2017.

In 2007, Ian Ziering, who played the spoiled teen Steve Sanders, became the first "90210" cast member to sign up for "Dancing With the Stars." With his partner Cheryl Burke, Ziering set the bar high with a fourth-place finish in Season 4.

Ziering has been married twice: first to Nikki Schieler from 1997 to 2002 and then to Erin Kristine Ludwig. The two (seen here) wed in 2010 but split in 2019.

In 2013, Ziering notched another entry into the pop-culture pantheon, starring in the comedy/horror hybrid "Sharknado" and its five sequels.

Luke Perry was one of the early breakout stars from "90210" thanks to his role as Dylan McKay, a latter-day James Dean type. A loner with a trust fund whose parents are out of the picture, he treated the Walshes as his adopted family. He later dated Brenda but after their breakup, he took up with Kelly, causing a rift between the two friends.

In Season 6, he romanced the daughter of a mobster (Rebecca Gayheart) who stole his money, only to fall in love with her. They married and relocated to Hawaii, but her father's attempted hit on Dylan killed her instead, sending him into a tailspin. Perry left the show for two years, returning for Season 9. At that point, Dylan became addicted to heroin and learned his father, who he believed had died seven years earlier, was alive and in the Witness Protection Program. In the series finale, he reunited with Kelly at Donna's wedding.

In an attempt to escape typecasting after "90210" ended, Perry sought out roles as different as possible, joining the HBO prison drama "Oz" midway through Season 4 in 2001. He played a preacher jailed for embezzlement.

In 2016, Perry signed onto the comic-based CW series "Riverdale," in which he played Fred Andrews, a candidate for mayor and father to Archie (KJ Apa).

Perry died March 4, 2019, just days after suffering a massive stroke. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Gabrielle Carteris was 29 when she debuted as Andrea Zuckerman, the editor of the West Beverly High School newspaper and valedictorian. Accepted at Yale, she declined and attended the fictional California University with her friends. Andrea fell in love with and married her old resident advisor. They had a daughter together and moved to Connecticut, where she finally did attend Yale.

Carteris returned as a guest star in later years, including a Season 10 episode where she returned for Donna's bachelorette party and revealed she was about to be divorced.

In a very Andrea move, Carteris ran for president of the Screen Actors Guild in 2016 and won. Here, she arrives for the union's 25th annual SAG Awards in January 2019 with Charles Isaacs, her husband of more than three decades. They have two children together.

Over the course of the series, Brian Austin Green's character, David Silver, succeeded in upgrading his social profile from nerd to a member of the popular crowd, partially thanks to his new stepsister, Kelly Taylor. He also had an on-and-off-again relationship with Donna Martin throughout high school and college. Though they finally married in the series finale, the 2013 CW reboot revealed that they separated after having a daughter together.

Green, who dated "90210" co-stars Tiffani-Amber Thiessen and Vanessa Marcil, married "Transformers" actress Megan Fox in 2010. He has four children, all boys: one with Marcil and three with Fox. After 10 years of marriage, Green confirmed that the two had split on his podcast  “…With Brian Austin Green."

The actor said the couple became more distant when Fox was working out of the country for roughly five weeks shooting a film. He explained that since the end of 2019, they had been spending more time apart.

"Neither one of us did anything to each other," he clarified on his podcast in May 2020. "She's always been honest with me. I've always been honest with her. We've had an amazing relationship."
