President Donald Trump addresses the nation from the East Room of the White House in Washington, DC on July 16, 2026. President Donald Trump said in his White House address that China has been trying to make sure he didn't get elected — or reelected — long before the 2020 election that he claims was hacked by Beijing to help his rival, Joe Biden. "The cover-up of this colossal security breach is even more disturbing in light of the additional information showing that China engaged in other election-related activities to undermine my first administration and our 2020 campaign," Trump said. "They did not want, they just didn't want it, (and) they fought like hell not to have it, Donald Trump to win, and for good reason."
