Brian Truitt

Movie Critic
Portrait of Brian Truitt

Brian Truitt is USA TODAY’s movie critic, reviewing new films as well as crafting rankings lists and weekly streaming guides to let the readers of the Nation’s Newspaper know what is the best stuff to watch. He also regularly interviews the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including George Clooney, Stephen King, Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage, Michael B. Jordan, Brad Pitt and many more.

Brian has spent more than 25 years in entertainment journalism, and since joining USA TODAY in 2007, he’s traveled the world visiting the sets of Marvel blockbusters and other high-profile movies while also debuting first looks, trailers and seasonal previews for projects audiences talk about long after their release. He wrote about the cinematic potential of “The Odyssey” before Christopher Nolan tackled Homer’s epic, went behind the scenes with WWE wrestlers at “Monday Night Raw,” and rounded up the cast of ‘80s cult classic “Clue” for an exclusive reunion.

Pop culture has been a passion for Brian since growing up in the Reagan era on “Star Wars” movies, comic books and Saturday morning cartoons, and he keeps the next generation in mind when writing about new fresh faces in front of and behind the screen. A member of the Critics Choice Association and a Gold Derby expert, Brian has degrees in journalism and music performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has moderated all-star panels at San Diego Comic-Con, New York Comic Con and various film festivals.
