Toby oversees news coverage at USA TODAY, including the politics, national and trending teams. She also oversees the News Desk of editors and breaking news reporters. Toby was previously deputy managing editor at the Miami Herald where she helped lead the newsroom’s breaking and enterprise coverage of South Florida. She was managing editor of the Washington bureau at McClatchy during the pandemic, two presidential impeachments, the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. Toby was a correspondent at Reuters for more than two decades, covering the White House, Congress, Pentagon, Justice Department and national security issues.
