Updated: To fix wording.

Nowadays, some advanced cars are filled with enough infrared technology for night vision that they can be driven blindfolded.

At least that was the theory behind the latest episode of the World's Fastest Car Show on YouTube's Motor Trend Channel.

The host, race driver Justin Bell, took a BMW X5, blacked out the windshield, and drove from Griffith Park in Los Angeles to downtown, about 10 miles.

He did it all by watching the car's infrared sensor on the center stack. Oh, and he had a police motorcycle escort.

Still, it sounds like a pretty dicey little trip considering he encounters oncoming Toyotas, skateboarders, a girl with a dog and other hazards. It's an interesting idea with the caveat: Don't try this at home.
