A man fell to his death during a rock concert at Madison Square Garden over the weekend, according to the New York City Police Department.

Just before 10 p.m. June 20, officers with the NYPD responded to a 911 call for an injured person at the iconic stadium in Midtown Manhattan. When they arrived, they found a 51-year-old man who was "unconscious and unresponsive," NYPD told USA TODAY in an email.

The department added that the man had suffered injuries "indicative of falling from an elevated position."

The man was attending a concert by Brooklyn-based jam band Goose, who played two shows at the Garden on June 19 and June 20.

The man, who has not been identified, was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities. The investigation is ongoing.

Trevor Weekz, Ben Atkind, Rick Mitarotonda, Jeff Arevalo and Peter Anspach of the band Goose perform at the Ryman Auditorium on March 30, 2023, in Nashville.

Goose 'deeply saddened and heartbroken' after concert death

In a post on Instagram the band said they were "deeply saddened and heartbroken" to learn about the man's death.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected," the band wrote. "Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support."

Madison Square Garden has been in the headlines recently. It was the site of the New York Knicks' NBA finals win over the San Antonio Spurs, as well as a rumored venue for the wedding of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.
