Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son makes rare appearance at festival

Jan. 29, 2026, 11:37 a.m. ET

Nearly two years after a biking accident landed him in the hospital, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son, Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt, is stepping out for a rare solo appearance.

Jolie-Pitt, 22, was spotted attending a screening of the short film, "Self Custody," during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Jan. 23. The thriller, directed by Fernando Ferro and Garrett Patten, stars Henry Cejudo, Adrian Grenier and Adley Pearl Jones.

In July 2024, Jolie-Pitt was reportedly hospitalized in Los Angeles after he crashed his electric bicycle into the rear of a stopped vehicle in the Los Feliz neighborhood, according to TMZ and the Los Angeles Times. Witnesses of the incident told TMZ at the time that Jolie-Pitt, who was not wearing a helmet, experienced hip pain afterward and seemingly sustained a head injury.

At one point during the "Self Custody" screening, Jolie-Pitt posed for a group photo with directors Ferro and Patten. He wore a red and blue flannel shirt, which he paired with a black T-shirt and silver pendant necklace.

Two months after his biking accident, Jolie-Pitt joined his mother Jolie on the press tour for her films "Without Blood" and "Maria." At the world premiere of "Without Blood," which took place at the Toronto International Film Festival, the mother-son duo posed side by side on the red carpet in matching black formal wear.

Jolie-Pitt later attended a screening of Jolie's psychological drama "Maria" at the New York Film Festival alongside siblings Zahara and Maddox.

Jolie-Pitt was adopted by Jolie and her then-partner Pitt in March 2007 after the couple met him during a visit to an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in November 2006. Jolie initially applied for adoption as a single parent due to Vietnam's adoption regulations, although Pitt later adopted him as well.

Jolie-Pitt also has an interest in filmmaking, having worked as a production assistant on Jolie's 2024 film "Maria." However, unlike his superstar parents, he seemingly prefers to stay behind the camera.

"They really don't like any of the celebrity part of it," Jolie said of her children during an appearance at the 2025 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. "I think in a very healthy way, they don't. Because it's not a normal thing. It's a silly thing, really."
