Nickelodeon star Chris O'Neal arrested after alleged burglary attempt

Actor and former child star Chris O'Neal was taken into police custody on Monday following an alleged burglary in Malibu, California.

O'Neal, who starred on the Nickelodeon series "How to Rock," was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on March 16, according to arrest records reviewed by USA TODAY on Wednesday.

O'Neal, 31, was booked on a felony charge, although additional details on the alleged offense were not available from police.

According to TMZ, deputies responded to a burglary call Monday morning after a resident said they were alerted by security camera footage that three adults had entered the home.

The intruders reportedly trespassed through the rear of the home and "manipulated" the residence's security cameras to block later footage, per TMZ.

O'Neal was released from custody on Tuesday due to "insufficient grounds for making a criminal complaint," according to LASD arrest records.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and O'Neal's representatives for comment.

This isn't O'Neal's first bout of legal troubles.

In May 2020, the actor was arrested in the San Fernando Valley, California, on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated, according to E! News and TMZ.

At age 18, O'Neal starred as Kevin Reed on the musical sitcom "How to Rock" in 2012, playing the socially awkward drummer of Gravity 5, a group fronted by singer Kacey Simon (Cymphonique Miller).

In addition to "How to Rock," O'Neal cohosted the Nickelodeon reality series "You Gotta See This!", starred in the Jennette McCurdy movie "Swindle" and appeared on the game show "Figure It Out."

O'Neal's other roles include Daniel Hayward in Netflix's psychological thriller series "Greenhouse Academy" and Bam on the Mýa-led drama "5th Ward."
