Full schedule of King Charles' royal visit to US

April 27, 2026Updated April 30, 2026, 6:25 a.m. ET

LONDON, United Kingdom — A royal visit to Front Royal, Virginia.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla finish up their first state visit to the U.S. on Thursday, April 30, with time in Virginia, one of America's original 13 colonies, as part of their trip marking America's 250th birthday.

A plan to experience Virginia's nature and communities concludes Charles and Camilla's tour across Washington, DC, New York City, which marks the first royal visit to the U.S. since 2007, when Queen Elizabeth II was hosted by former President George W. Bush. The king's mother had a unique relationship with the White House and made three other state visits to the U.S. during her reign: in 1957, 1976, 1991. Charles also has visited the U.S. 19 times as Prince of Wales, according to Buckingham Palace. The visit is a symbolic celebration of the United Kingdom's special relationship with the U.S.

Here's a day-by-day breakdown of the royals' schedule for their trip across the pond, according to statements from the White House and Buckingham Palace.

Royal visit to Front Royal

The king is celebrating his appreciation for environmental causes while in the U.S. He wraps up his trip with a visit to Virginia, where he will see a national park and attend community events and cultural performances.

The couple are set to sightsee local nature at Shenandoah National Park before visiting Front Royal, a historic small town at the northern gateway to the Shenandoah Valley and Shenandoah National Park.

There, Charles and Camilla are scheduled to attend a community block party marking America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. The town's main street will be part of the king and queen's parade route.

Later, the royal couple will move on to another scenic area of Virginia near the town of The Plains, where they are expected to attend a horse racing event. Camilla will also visit a Virginia farm to spotlight the American horse‑racing industry's historic ties to the U.K.

From there, the monarchs will travel to Bermuda, which is part of the U.K. Commonwealth.

What the royals have done so far

The royals began their state visit in the nation's capital. After landing in the U.S. on Monday, April 27, they joined President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump for tea at the White House before touring the newly unveiled and expanded White House beehive on the South Lawn near the Kitchen Garden.

An address to Congress

For his second day in the U.S., Charles delivered a rare address to a joint session of Congress on Capitol Hill, marking only the second time a British monarch has done so. His mother spoke at the Capitol in 1991.

He spoke to members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives at a time when the long-held alliance between the U.K. and U.S. faces challenges, including the war in Iran by the U.S. and a global strain on oil supply and tensions over NATO, as well as the importance of the military alliance and perceived lack of support from other member countries for U.S. operations.

While Tuesday's address focused on the symbolic and historic value of the relationship between the transatlantic allies, there were notable signs of division between Republicans and Democrats – and of a changing United States – during Charles' nearly 30-minute speech. Through their applause and standing ovations, Democrats showed more support than many Republicans for the monarch’s remarks, particularly on the importance of NATO and environmental protection.

Also on Tuesday, Trump and King Charles held a closed-door meeting in the Oval Office. Meanwhile, Melania Trump and Queen Camilla lead a separate educational event with students at the White House Tennis Pavilion.

The evening was highlighted by a state dinner featuring notable guests and much pomp and circumstance.

A day in NYC

The king and queen on Wednesday, April 29, departed Washington for New York City, where Charles and Camilla visited the 9/11 Memorial at One World Trade Center. The monarchs met with families of victims and first responders involved in the attacks.

It marked the first visit to the Big Apple by a reigning British monarch to the city since Queen Elizabeth II traveled there in 2010.

While visiting the 9/11 Memorial, Charles briefly met New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
