Katy Perry went incognito at the 2026 Met Gala, donning a space-esque mask while walking the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Perry, who went to space with the annual gala's honorary co-chair Lauren Sánchez Bezos last year, wore an ivory Stella McCartney dress with a decorated train and gloves with her long hair cascading down her back. As she climbed up the steps of the museum, Perry briefly removed her mask and flashed a big smile for the photographers.

A spokesperson for Perry said the singer's satin gown and train were cut from Italian deadstock duchess satin, "all repurposed from surplus tailoring fabrics, meaning that no new materials were used to make this dress." The gown's burned satin train is a nod to Perry's upcoming new single "Watch It Burn."

The headpiece, meanwhile, was custom-designed by Miodrag Guberinic.

The pop star's public appearance was just weeks after she was accused of sexual assault by Australian actress Ruby Rose. Rose, in a series of Threads posts on April 12, alleged that the Grammy-nominated pop star assaulted her at an Australian nightclub when she was in her 20s. A representative for Perry has since denied the allegations, calling Rose's claims "dangerous reckless lies."

Rose's comments have led to a police investigation of the alleged incident in Australia, Victoria Police previously confirmed to USA TODAY. No formal charges have been filed in the case.

Perry was not the only guest with a mask on the red carpet. British actress Gwendoline Christie held up a mask of her own face, created by the celebrated British artist Gillian Wearing, according to Vogue, as she walked up the steps of the Met Museum.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau

Perry, who has been romantically linked to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, was recently spotted at Coachella with him, with pictures shared by Perry showing the two getting cozy and indulging in PDA.

The duo became Instagram official in December after being romantically linked since the summer of 2025, when reports of their outing in Montreal made headlines. Soon after, Trudeau was captured singing along at Perry's Montreal concert as seen in videos posted on social media.

Perry and ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom announced their split in July after nine years together. They share custody of 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.

Trudeau, meanwhile, was previously married to Sophie Grégoire, with whom he shares three children. The former couple announced their separation in August 2023.

What is the Met Gala?

The Costume Institute Benefit, commonly known as the Met Gala, is a fundraiser for the museum's Costume Institute, which hosts a collection of over 33,000 fashion artifacts. The event raised a record $42 million for the institute, USA TODAY reported, surpassing last year's record of $31 million.
