Robert and Terri Irwin reveal update on Bindi Irwin's health

Bindi Irwin is focusing on her health.

The conservationist missed this year's Steve Irwin Gala, an annual event in honor of her late father Steve Irwin, as she manages her endometriosis.

Her mother Terri Irwin and brother Robert Irwin gave an update on Bindi's battle with the chronic illness at the event in Las Vegas on May 2.

"Bindi is doing so much better now," Terri Irwin told E! News. "So, things like a lot of travel are a bit challenging for her at the moment and so she’ll be here next year to celebrate this wonderful night."

Terri Irwin added that Bindi opted to stay "a little close to home" in Australia, quipping that "it’s less taxing for her to be home feeding crocodiles."

Robert Irwin told the outlet his sister is "doing a great job" running the show at Australia Zoo, the wildlife park that the family owns.

Bindi Irwin, 27, also missed last year's Steve Irwin Gala after an emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix, Robert Irwin said at the time.

Bindi Irwin on endometriosis battle: 'No one deserves to suffer in silence'

Bindi Irwin has spoken openly about her battle with endometriosis since first revealing her diagnosis in March 2023.

At the time, Bindi Irwin wrote on Instagram that she had "struggled with insurmountable fatigue, pain & nausea" for ten years.

"Trying to remain a positive person & hide the pain has been a very long road. These last 10yrs have included many tests, doctors visits, scans, etc," she wrote. "A doctor told me it was simply something you deal with as a woman & I gave up entirely, trying to function through the pain."

She said she was diagnosed with endometriosis after undergoing surgery to cut lesions out of her body.

Earlier this year, Bindi Irwin said in an Instagram post that she's had over 50 endometriosis lesions as well as a cyst on her ovary removed, in addition to an appendectomy and a hernia repair.

"If you’re in pain, my heart breaks for you. I believe you. Please find answers. And don’t give up on yourself. I know how hard that can be," she wrote.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue that is similar to the lining of the uterus grows on other parts of the body, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

It can cause intense pelvic pain, impacting your menstrual cycle as well as fertility.

Treatment for endometriosis can include medicine or surgery to remove the impacted tissue, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Endometriosis is estimated to impact 1 in 10 women worldwide, per Cleveland Clinic.
