How stars reacted to Democrats' election 'sweep' – 'Saved your beloved country'
Stars from both sides of the aisle are reacting to the 2026 midterms, where Democrats scored big victories across the nation.
Stars like Bruce Springsteen, Olivia Rodrigo, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves and more vocally supported Democrats in key races, including Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, Amy Acton in Ohio and James Talarico in Texas, respectively. Now more outspoken stars like Mark Ruffalo, Bette Midler, The Chicks and Viola Davis have praised the incoming officials across the country.
Midler reacted to the election in a series of posts, calling the Nov. 3 election night a "fantastic sweep" and telling Americans: "You've saved your beloved country."
"A new surge of optimism has washed over us all. We can never let what we lived through for the last ten years happen again," Midler wrote on Instagram Thursday, Nov. 5.
Davis celebrated the results in Georgia, where Keisha Lance Bottoms was elected as the first Black woman governor in the state's history. "We the people…..THE PEOPLE!! We are the orchestrators of this nation….and we have spoken…through our vote….CONGRATULATIONS, my sistah," she wrote Tuesday.
Meanwhile, The Chicks were on stage when election results came in.
"Welcome to our 'blue-nami' night," frontwoman Natalie Maines told a cheering Los Angeles crowd, according to a video posted by Billboard. "So glad we can enjoy this night together. Texas is blue. The Senate is blue. The House is blue. This would be a very different night if that wasn't the case."
Molly Ringwald posted a photo on Instagram posing with California Governor-elect Xavier Becerra. "What a night!" she wrote. "I was so happy to have met him along with his lovely wife Dr. Carolina Reyes supporting Planned Parenthood."
John Leguizamo shared a video Wednesday, saying "Texas did us right." The "Odyssey" star continued, "We can override the president's veto don't play!"
Mandy Moore, in an Instagram story on Tuesday, congratulated New Hampshire Senator-elect Chris Pappas, who will become the first openly gay U.S. senator: "Alright HOMESTATE!!!!"
Stephen King, who voiced support for Maine's Senator-elect Troy Jackson, tweeted "Buyer's remorse" and later wrote, "Trump is the biggest RINO of all. Does he care about the Republican Party? Not a bit of it. He only cares about himself. He is a monument to selfishness."
Ruffalo tweeted on Wednesday, "Rise up and sing!"
"Thanks to all you who woke up and got to work organizing! All of you who voted for decency, fairness, equality, justice and against the flagrant corruption in our political system which has been stacked against the working people of this country," he added. "Celebrate. Then we go to work reforming our party and our nation for good."
