Guy Fieri’s visit to Alaina’s Café & Bake Shop on "Diners, Drive‑Ins and Dives" brought a Food Network spotlight to the Palm Beach Gardens hidden gem that was already averaging more than 300 patrons daily.

When we reach the restaurant's host stand just ahead of 5:30 p.m., the hostess asks if we have a reservation. We don’t. We ask for the counter instead, which seems like the safest bet. At that point, only three tables remain. By 6 p.m., every table is filled, along with every counter seat.

The television moment brings attention, but the room feels anchored by regulars. Patrons move with intention, flipping menus they already know. Service is brisk. The kitchen keeps a steady rhythm as plates move quickly from pass to table. Nothing about the scene feels like a novelty rush.

Only one dinner dish appears on the show, Alaina’s Bolognese, which I order alongside the arrabbiata. The Bolognese is rich and well executed, clearly a house signature.

Alaina's rigatoni Bolognese with housemade ricotta played a starring role on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins, Dives" season 55 episode "Buns, Burgers, and Bolognese."

Still, I prefer the arrabbiata for its heat and clarity. I like my Bolognese with carrots, a personal preference, and this version takes a different approach.

While Alaina's rigatoni Bolognese starred on Food Network's "DDD" with Guy Fieri, I preferred the from-scratch spaghetti arrabbiata with sausage chunks. My date left NOTHING in the bowl!

Television creates moments. Busy Friday nights build loyalty.
