Fourth 'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer debuts, confirms character return

Jan. 9, 2026, 11:04 a.m. ET

Another week, another new trailer for "Avengers: Doomsday."

A fourth teaser for the highly anticipated Marvel film, this one centered on the Wakandans, is now playing in theaters in front of screenings of "Avatar: Fire and Ash."

The footage, which has not yet been released online, opens with Shuri (Letitia Wright), the current Black Panther, walking through a desert environment as she says in a voiceover, "I've lost everyone that matters to me. A king has his duties, to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine."

The trailer also shows a glimpse of Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía), the villain of 2022's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," and his cousin Namora (Mabel Cadena). This is the first time it has been confirmed that Cadena will return in the film, as she was not on the previously announced cast list.

We then see a group of Wakandans, including M'Baku (Winston Duke), walking up to Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) of the Fantastic Four and introducing himself. "King M'Baku of Wakanda," he says, to which Ben replies, "Ben. Yancy Street between Broome and Grand."

The trailer closes with a shot of Shuri looking ready for battle as text comes on screen that reads, "The Wakandans and the Fantastic Four will return in 'Avengers: Doomsday.'"

Though they aren't featured in the new footage, the other three main stars of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" are also confirmed to be returning in "Avengers: Doomsday": Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn. The credits scene of "First Steps" suggested a plot point in "Doomsday" will be Doctor Doom kidnapping Franklin, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.

The new trailer confirms that the Fantastic Four characters will cross over into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe in "Avengers: Doomsday." "First Steps" took place in a universe separate from the primary one seen in the MCU, though the credits scene of "Thunderbolts" showed the Fantastic Four's ship arriving into the universe where most of the other Marvel characters live.

Since "Avatar: Fire and Ash" hit theaters last month, Marvel has debuted a new trailer for "Avengers: Doomsday" in theaters every week. In each case, the latest trailer has replaced the previous one and has initially only been available to watch in theaters before being released online a few days later.

The first trailer focused on Steve Rogers, marking the first official confirmation that Chris Evans would reprise that role in the film. The footage showed Evans as Steve arriving to the home he shares with Peggy Carter, as seen at the end of "Avengers: Endgame," and holding a baby.

The second trailer focused on Chris Hemsworth as Thor, who is seen walking through the woods and saying a prayer that he can return home to his daughter. This trailer confirmed Thor's daughter, who was introduced in "Thor: Love and Thunder," will be a returning character for "Doomsday."

The third trailer focused on the X-Men, with Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier and Ian McKellen's Magneto warmly embracing before James Marsden's Cyclops is seen looking distraught. Fiery destruction, and what appears to be a mutant-hunting Sentinel robot, is seen behind him.

All four trailers have followed the same format, each concluding with a green "Avengers" logo and a countdown to the release date. Marvel hasn't confirmed how many trailers for the film will be released.

The stacked cast of "Avengers: Doomsday," announced last year, also includes Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh and more stars alongside Marvel veteran Robert Downey Jr., who is returning in a surprising new role: The main villain of the movie, Doctor Doom.
