Chappell Roan at 2025 Grammys: See photos of breakout star at music's biggest night

Chappell Roan made a striking entrance on the Grammys red carpet on Sunday.

Roan, 26, arrived at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles for the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier dress from the French fashion house's 2003 spring/summer couture collection, completing her look with a feather-like hat and colorful makeup.

The "Pink Pony Club" singer, who burst into the mainstream with the release of her debut album, received six nominations for this year's ceremony, including in the "Big Four" categories: album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best new artist.

Roan is also up for best pop solo performance ("Good Luck, Babe!") and best pop vocal album ("The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess"). Sabrina Carpenter was the only other musical artist who received four out of six nominations in the "Big Four" categories.

Roan is set to perform at the event, which will be hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, marking the former late-night host's fifth consecutive run as master of ceremonies.

How did Chapell Roan get her name?

Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, crafted her stage name to honor her late grandfather, Dennis Chappell, who died of brain cancer in 2016. And Chappell's favorite song was Marty Robbins' classic cowboy toe-tapper "The Strawberry Roan."

Roan put the two names together, creating Chappell Roan, an artist who would later become recognized and nominated by the Recording Academy for her musical contributions.

Her name change, she told Oxford's student newspaper Cherwell in August 2022, was born from a promise.

"Before he passed away, I told him that I was going to be Chappell for him. Roan came from … an old Western song about a pinkish red horse," Roan said. "It's a very sentimental name. I do still wish my name was not Kayleigh in real life, though."
