Adele will trade in her mic for the screen in film debut set for 2026

Updated Nov. 12, 2025, 5:09 p.m. ET

Adele wrapped her Las Vegas residency in 2024 by saying, "I don't know when I'm next going to perform again."

She's confirmed her desire to stretch artistically by making her acting debut in the upcoming Tom Ford movie, "Cry to Heaven."

According to Deadline, which broke news of the project, Adele will be part of a cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hunter Schafer, Colin Firth, Thandiwe Newton and Pedro Pascal's sister, Lux Pascal.

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter also reported on the singer's acting debut. USA TODAY has reached out to Adele's rep for more information about the film project.

Adele's Las Vegas residency show starts quietly, with the singer and her pianist, but unfurls into a staggering production.

Fashion mogul Ford will direct, produce and write the film an adaptation of Anne Rice's 1982 novel of the same name. The fictional story about two men − a Venetian noble and a castrated opera singer − is set in 18th-century Italy. The film is currently in pre-production in London and Rome.

When is Tom Ford's 'Cry to Heaven'?

A film release is planned for fall 2026.

The cast of "Cry to Heaven" is rounded out by stars Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Paul Bettany, Owen Cooper, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Josephine Thiesen, Theodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton and Hauk Hannenmann.

Ford, who is self-financing the film, made his directorial debut with 2009's "A Single Man," which also starred Firth.

Before movie role, Adele told fans she was taking a break

Adele performed her "Weekends with Adele" residency at Caesars Palace for two years of sold-out shows. During a handful of shows in Germany in summer 2024, Adele told fans that once her residency finished that fall, "I will not see you for an incredibly long time and I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break."
