Kacey Musgraves announces new album with Texas roots, May 1 release
James PowelKacey Musgraves is set to release a new studio album this spring. “Middle of Nowhere,” her latest full‑length project, arrives May 1, Universal Music Group announced.
The description for the album notes that it is a collection of songs that "draws from a love of Texas dancehall classics, humorous takes on the human condition, and the space where traditional Country borders many sounds including Norteño and even Zydeco."
Musgraves said in the March 11 statement announcing the album's release that it was made during the longest period of time she was single. During that time she was living between Texas, Tennessee and Mexico, and the album came out of "a lot of time for creative ambling."
"I became fascinated with the concept of liminal space, both geographical and emotional," she said. "We don’t linger in these transitional, empty spaces long enough and rush to define where or whatever is next."
The 13-track album includes features from Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings, and Gregory Alan Isakov. It follows 2024's "Deeper Well," which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and had 2025 Grammy winner for best country song "The Architect" on its track list.
The album announcement was accompanied by the release of single "Dry Spell" and a music video for the innuendo laced track.
It is currently available for preorder.
