Zayn Malik reveals hospitalization, cancels appearances
Melina KhanZayn Malik is on the road to recovery.
In an April 17 Instagram story, the former One Direction singer revealed he has been hospitalized and is "unexpectedly recovering" from an undisclosed health issue.
"To my fans – Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always – been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering," he wrote alongside a selfie from his hospital bed.
Malik also thanked "the incredible hospital staff" of doctors, nurses and cardiologists.
The 33-year-old shared his health setback on the same day he released his fifth studio album, "Konnakol." The musician first rose to fame as a member of One Direction before leaving the group to pursue a solo career in 2015.
USA TODAY has reached out to Malik's reps for comment.

Malik's team, which runs the Instagram @inzayn, also posted that several of his upcoming appearances have been canceled "given Zayn's recent health update."
The canceled events include: meet and greets at the Looney Tunes Record Store on Long Island, New York; Newbury Comics in Boston; Rough Trade in New York City; and The Sound Garden in Baltimore.

A "Konnakol" pop-up shop at UMusic in New York City will remain open on April 20, but Malik will not appear for a planned meet and greet, the @inzayn account said as well.
The @inzayn page said in an Instagram story that stores will reach out directly to fans who purchased tickets regarding next steps.

Malik expressed gratitude for his fans despite the setback.
"Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week. I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding," he wrote.
