Why Jack White hid a note for Olivia Rodrigo at 'SNL'

The unlikely friendship between Nashville rocker Jack White and pop singer Olivia Rodrigo is the gift that keeps on giving.

The former White Stripes frontman sent Rodrigo on a little scavenger hunt ahead of her double-duty stint on "Saturday Night Live" to wish her good luck.

On May 2, Rodrigo will hit the stage as the sketch comedy show's musical guest and host, an honor that only a few dozen stars have taken on in the show's 50 seasons.

"I love Jack White, he is my hero," Rodrigo told Jimmy Fallon during an April 30 interview. "Wonderful person, always stands up for what's right."

"I was on the phone with him the other day. I was like, 'Oh my god, I'm going to host 'SNL.' He's like, 'I'm gonna leave a note in your dressing room."

Rodrigo didn't actually think he would do it.

While she was rehearsing at Studio 8H, White sent her a text to look up. There might be a hidden message for her.

Rodrigo said she was "tearing apart the 'SNL' dressing room" and taking the ceiling tiles off.

In a video of the whole episode, Rodrigo and her team looked all over the room. Eventually, Rodrigo spots the note taped to the ceiling inside of a cabinet.

With a yellow rose in tow, White wrote Rodrigo a message: "Kill it, Kid."

"That's my little good luck charm," Rodrigo told Fallon.

When did Olivia Rodrigo meet Jack White?

"I'm the biggest Jack White fangirl," Rodrigo told the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year. "I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who loves Jack White and the White Stripes more than me."

White and Rodrigo met back in 2022 when Rodrigo performed in Nashville on her "Sour" tour.

On Instagram, White posted a video of the two of them in his Nashville music venue, The Blue Room at Third Man Records. In the clip, Rodrigo hugs White and starts to get emotional.

"I had the chance to meet a talented singer and musician today named @OliviaRodrigo, she’s very cool, very real and very much a lover of music," White wrote in the caption.

"She’s also introducing another set of youth to the love of vinyl records as well. Respect."

On her upcoming "Unraveled" tour, Rodrigo will stop at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena for two nights of shows on Nov. 23 and 24.

But will Jack White appear as a special guest at either of Rodrigo's Nashville shows?

Right now, he's booked out for tour dates through Nov. 21.

However, his schedule seems to be wide open on the days Rodrigo's in town.
