Updated May 15, 2026, 2:05 p.m. ET

Drake is addressing his father's recent health status on his new "Iceman" album.

On the introspective intro track "Make Them Cry," the Canadian rapper reflects on his feud with Kendrick Lamar, critics and his family. At the end of the song, he revealed that his father, Dennis Graham, has cancer.

"My dad got cancer right now, we're battling stages," he raps. "Trust me when I say there's plenty things that I'd rather be facing."

Drake did not provide further details about his father's diagnosis.

Recording artist Drake (L) accepts the Top Artist award with his father Dennis Graham during the 2017 Billboard Music Awards at T-Mobile Arena on May 21, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Drake's father confirmed his illness, says he's 'wonderful' now

In a video shared on TMZ on Friday morning, May 15, Graham confirmed that he had cancer "a while back" and said he's in "wonderful" health now. He thanked the fans for the well wishes.

"It was lung cancer at first," Graham, 71, told the outlet. "Fortunately, I got a message that it disappeared. So, here I am."

Throughout Drake's career, the 39-year-old emcee has been open in his music about his tumultuous relationship with his father, including his parents' divorce and his absence from his life.

For instance, on his 2013 song "From Time," Drake raps: "I've been dealing with my dad, speaking of lack of patience / Just me and my old man getting back to basics/ We've been talking about the future and time that we wasted/ When he put that bottle down, girl, that (expletive) amazing."

Dennis Graham, father of recording artist Drake, arrives at the 2016 American Music Awards in Los Angeles, California, U.S., November 20, 2016.
