Colbert rocks tan suit after controversial Obama fashion choice
Morgan EvansStephen Colbert is bringing the tan suit back.
The longtime late night host was just one of many celebrity names in attendance at the star-studded grand opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on June 18.
For the historic occasion, Colbert donned a lightweight tan suit paired with a blue-and-grey striped tie. The suit appeared to be a nod to the former President Barack Obama's controversial tan suit that he infamously wore at a 2014 press conference while discussing the U.S. military response to the Islamic State in Syria. At the time, the suit caused media uproar with people deeming the tan look "too casual" or "inappropriate" for presidential affairs.

Obama's tan suit moment has persisted for his supporters as an example of unfair criticism, but nearly a decade later, the suit has become an iconic piece of fashion within itself.

Unfortunately for visitors who anticipated seeing the famed suit in the president center, museum organizers said earlier this month that the tan suit is not on display at the museum, as Obama gave it away.
Colbert, whose CBS show was recently canceled, seemed to be in good spirits greeting celebrity names like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Mark Hamill, L.L. Cool J, and David Letterman, who also took note from Colbert sporting a cool tan blazer. But Colbert and Letterman weren't the only ones. Later in the ceremony, Obama Foundation Board chairman Marty Nesbitt showed off his tan suit while addressing the crowd.
"This was inspired by a very good friend of mine, who made tan suits famous," Nesbitt said. "And I don't know about the rest of y'all but I thought he look pretty good wearing his, so I decided to wear one myself."

In addition to Hollywood guests, politicians also came out to support the opening of the new center, including former President Joe Biden with former first lady Jill Biden, former President George W. Bush with former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with former President Bill Clinton.

As the ceremony for the museum opening takes off, Obama is joined on stage by former first lady Michelle Obama and their daughters, Sasha and Malia, while enjoying celebratory performances from musical sensations including Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, U2's Bono and The Edge and more.
