With the holidays over, it's time to head back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, where Winston (Anthony Hill) and Ben (Jason Georg) fight to save Dr. Jo’s (Camilla Luddington) life and Lucas (Niko Terho) forms an unexpected bond with a patient.

Season 22 of "Grey Anatomy" premiered in October 2025 with the hospital and its staff on a long path to recovery after a major explosion that left multiple people injured, one character dead and caused severe damage to the medical facility's structure.

The blast, caused by a cauterization tool igniting gas in an operating room, injured multiple characters, including Dr. Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack), who suffered severe injuries. The orthopedic surgeon even shared an emotional farewell phone call with his new wife, Dr. Jo Wilson, but later miraculously survived.

However, Dr. Monica Beltran (Natalie Morales) was not as lucky and did not make it past the new season premiere.
