David Kendall, the producer behind the '90s television hit "Boy Meets World," has died.

His death was announced in a post from the Instagram account of the "Pod Meets World" podcast, hosted by former cast members Danielle Fishel, Ryder Strong and Will Friedle, on May 2.

The post credited Kendall for helping to develop the podcast hosts' "young creative voices" and said that the three of them had kept in touch with Kendall since the show ended.

"We are devastated to lose such an important person in our lives, both professionally and personally," the post reads. "We have lost a vital piece of our family − but we ask that the next time you watch the show, especially Seasons 2 & 3 (when he served as Showrunner), you think of our beloved Kendall."

Kendall's cousin, Lukas Kendall, confirmed in an email to USA TODAY that the young adult television stalwart died at the age of 68.

"He was such a dear man, it is very upsetting," he wrote.

Director David Kendall attends the world premiere of "Dirty Deeds" at the Directors Guild of America on August 23, 2005 in Los Angeles, California.

IMDB lists Kendall as an executive producer on "Boy Meets World" and as a director on episodes of "Hannah Montana," "Victorious" and "Big Time Rush."

"He directed, wrote and executive produced our show, but also helped mold some of TV’s most memorable sitcoms, from Growing Pains to Hannah Montana," the "Pod Meets World" post reads.

A cause of death was not mentioned in the post.

USA TODAY has reached out to Kendall's management for comment.
