Obama teases new HBO Max show featuring Larry David. What we know
Fernando Cervantes Jr.Former President Barack Obama teased an upcoming HBO Max show featuring comedian Larry David, saying that “nothing” had prepared him for working with the longtime comedian.
Obama’s teasing comments came as the former president announced a new show called “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,” in a video on HBO Max’s account on X.
“I have sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of the globe’s most intractable problems,” Obama said. “Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David. I’m just a producer on this show, so I don’t have to deal with him day-to-day, but still, it’s a lot.”
According to a news release from HBO’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, the new show is set to premiere June 26 on HBO Max and feature David as well as other “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actors and special guests.
Here's what to know ahead of the show.
The Obamas and media
The new show has been a long time coming, as Warner Bros. Discovery announced back in July 2025 that the Obamas were collaborating with David to produce a six-episode sketch comedy series to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
But that media venture has not been the only one the Obamas have been involved in following their time in the White House.

In 2018, the Obamas announced that they had established Higher Ground Productions to produce documentaries, films and podcasts. Following that announcement, Netflix said it had signed a deal with the Obamas to produce content for the streaming service.
Through Higher Ground, the Obamas have produced several podcasts, including "IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson", "Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast" and "Renegades: Born in the USA with Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen".
