Amazon expands same-day grocery delivery to more than 2,300 cities

Amazon Prime members in more cities can now get groceries delivered to their doorsteps in the same day.

Amazon announced on Dec. 10 that it has expanded its same-day grocery delivery service to more than 2,300 cities. When launched in August, the service was offered to Amazon Prime members in about 1,000 cities. The company plans to add even more markets in 2026.

Over the past four months, Amazon has expanded its grocery selection for same-day delivery by 30%, according to a news release. The retailer found that the top 10 most-ordered grocery items include bananas, avocados, strawberries, Honeycrisp apples, limes, blueberries, blackberries, organic bananas, Navel oranges and 12-packs of toilet paper, respectively, as outlined in the news release.

Where is Amazon same-day grocery delivery offered?

Amazon did not provide a full list of cities where same-day grocery delivery is available when contacted by USA TODAY on Dec. 11. In August, the service was rolled out in Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Miami and New York City. Newly added markets, per the news release, include:

• Boise, Idaho
• Salt Lake City, Utah
• Fort Collins, Colorado
• Omaha, Nebraska
• Sugar Land, Texas
• Des Moines, Iowa
• Kennesaw, Georgia
• Gaithersburg, Maryland

What can Amazon Prime members order with same-day delivery?

Produce, dairy products, meat, seafood, baked goods and frozen food are among the grocery items in which Amazon Prime members can get same-day delivery. Some electronics, books, tools and other items are also eligible.

How much does Amazon's same-day grocery delivery cost?

Amazon Prime members may redeem same-day delivery for free on orders more than $25, according to the Amazon news release. If an order doesn't meet that minimum, a $2.99 delivery fee will be added.

For non-Prime members, same-day delivery is $12.99, no matter the total cost.

You can also log into the Amazon website or mobile app, select a delivery location and then place grocery items in the cart. Proceed to the checkout to see what delivery options are available for that address. Same-day delivery is subject to a cutoff time each day, which varies by city.
