Publix adds more Florida stores, now opening 4 locations in November. Here’s where, when

Publix announced more Florida locations opening in November, continuing the surge from the previous two months.

The Lakeland-based grocery chain added stores in St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra to its opening-soon schedule, both of them with pharmacies and adjacent liquor stores, along with the usual amenities such as a deli and bakery. Stores in Naples and Tampa were already scheduled to open in November.

Publix opened three Florida locations in September and one in October. Another in Palm Bay is scheduled to open on Oct. 30. The chain has also opened 10 locations in the last two months in Georgia, North and South Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Most of the openings are existing stores the company has revamped into its new layout with canopied outdoor seating areas, self-checkout lanes and a partial second story with mezzanine seating that leaves more floor space downstairs for stock and customer amenities.

In Lakeland, the new Lake Mirium Square store will clock in at 55,701 square feet and will include a Pours counter with beverages, smoothies and acai bowls, expanded deli options like burrito bowls and fresh baked pizza, and a mezzanine seating area. The new St. Augustine store will be slightly smaller, at 54,964 square feet.

Similar stores, such as the Wesley Chapel location that opened in 2024, have included a salad bar, hot food buffet, olive bar and popcorn stand, with larger displays in the deli, bakery and meat and seafood departments.

Several more locations are in the works, including another in Viera and a newly confirmed one coming to downtown Jacksonville for the first time.

Will the giant Publix shopping cart be at the grand openings?

Maybe! The massive 11’9” tall, 14’ long and more than 7.5’ wide Publix shopping cart can often be seen cruising around the area whenever a Publix opens.

The cart, built on top of a Volkswagon Sand Rail, has a driver sitting underneath and can reach speeds up to 45 mph.

Publix isn't the only grocery store chain opening new stores.

The no-frills chain Aldi has opened three stores in Florida in recent days, with plans for at least 18 more coming.

Trader Joe's, a more upscale grocery destination, has at least two more stores opening in Florida, although the dates have not been announced.
