Aldi holds grand opening in new Florida county today. What to know

The wait is finally over for Aldi grocery shoppers in Indian River County, Florida.

The first Aldi in the county will hold its grand opening today, March 19.

The first 200 shoppers at the no-frills grocery store will receive a gift bag filled with a sampling of Aldi-exclusive products and a gift card as part of the Aldi Golden Ticket giveaway program, according to a news release. 

Shoppers will also get Aldi tote bags, while supplies last. Doors open at 9 a.m. after a ribbon-cutting at 8:30 a.m.

Shoppers were able to get into the store a day early, but all the giveaways will be Thursday, March 19.

It's not the first new Aldi in Florida this year and won't be the last. Aldi is opening two more stores in April, in Boca Raton and Fernandina Beach.

Where is the new Aldi in Vero Beach, Florida?

Giveaways offered to first 200 Aldi customers at new Vero Beach, Florida, grocery store

 To celebrate the new grocery store, the first 200 customers will receive a gift bag filled with a sampling of Aldi products and a gift card as part of the Aldi Golden Ticket giveaway program. 

All shoppers can get a free Aldi shopping tote while supplies last. Look for an Aldi employee and ask.

What is the Aldi Golden Ticket?

Offered during grand opening ceremonies, Aldi's Golden Ticket program is open to anyone who is:

  • 18 or older
  • a legal resident of the United States
  • who lives within 50 miles of the new Aldi
  • who visits the new store

The first 200 in line will each receive a laminated card, which is then exchanged inside the store for a Golden Ticket gift card.

The prizes on the gift cards range in value from $5 to $100.

No purchase is necessary.

Aldi's goal is to open 3,200 stores by the end of 2028, according to a news release.

There are nearly 300 Aldi locations in Florida.

Some other differences shoppers will notice:

  • Bring your own bags
    • If you forget, you can buy a reusable or paper bag at checkout
  • Bring a quarter to get a shopping cart
    • When you return the cart, you get your quarter back.
  • Products are displayed in their original shipping boxes.
  • More than 90% of products are Aldi-exclusive brands.

"Nearly all Aldi locations nationwide provide customers with convenient shopping options, including grocery delivery and curbside grocery pickup," according to a news release.

Aldi expanding fast in Florida

The discount grocery chain opened several new stores this year in Florida: in Cape Coral, Deerfield Beach, Fort Walton Beach, Port Orange, Pensacola, Fort Myers, Neptune Beach, Tampa, and two in Jacksonville.

The openings are all part of the chain's plan to open more than 180 new stores nationwide in 2026 and hit 3,200 stores by the end of 2028.

Aldi opened more than 60 new and converted stores in Florida in 2025. The company also plans to expand its distribution center in Haines City and build a new one in Baldwin, projected for a 2027 opening.

The company said it plans to continue converting the nearly 80 Winn-Dixie and Harvey's Supermarket locations it retained after briefly acquiring the company in 2024-2025, with nearly 20 more in progress around the state, according to local media and filings.
