Global grocery store Aldi South Group is rethinking its store design. The German discount grocer is using its American business as the testing ground for a new store format.

Tests of the new format began in late 2025 near Miami at the Promenade Shoppes in Aventura, with further expansion in 2026. According to the grocery store chain, this is a notable choice given Florida has become one of Aldi’s fastest-growing areas. The U.S. group of Aldi has taken a leadership role in the project through the company’s International Real Estate Committee, according to Forbes.

Early trials in Florida are expected to continue through 2026.

Three new Aldi grocery stores open in Florida

Aldi opened new stores in Bradenton, Sebastian and Venice on April 23, 2026. The no-frills grocery chain has already opened 17 new Florida stores this year, adding to the more than 60 new and converted stores the company launched in Florida in 2025. The new stores are part of the chain's rapid expansion plan to open more than 180 new stores nationwide in 2026.
