Hot summer days are perfect for reading romance.

There’s nothing like a good romance read. Here are some of the romances Happy Ever After’s contributors have recommended recently.

Into the Light by Aleatha Romig. Romig’s latest psychological thriller delivers a story steeped in deception and plucked from the horrors of one’s worst nightmares. It’s a story where lives are violently snuffed only to be given new breath in a world led by The Light — demanding obedience, promising happiness and assuring a heavy-handed correction when gone astray. Women have been disappearing. Some never to be found, some to be found violently killed. Romig guides us deep into her intricately plotted narrative, unraveling in multiple points of view: a woman named Sara, who wakes without sight and memory; an investigative reporter, Stella, who searches for the truth; and a man who hides just that. A riveting psychological suspense. (Recommended by Vilma Gonzalez)

Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply by Terry Spear. This is No. 19 in the Heart of the Wolf series but can be read as a stand-alone novel without missing a thing. As usual, Ms. Spear brings to the reader the backstories that are necessary to move this book’s plot forward without resorting to an information dump. Another great shifter story by Terry Spear, and one I recommend to lovers of romance, mystery and stories of strong women finding their mates. (Recommended by Becky Condit)

The Complete Submission Series by CD Reiss. Jonathan is an alpha among alphas, successful and rich, with fiery red hair to match his inferno of a personality. With money and decadent looks, he’s a catch. Except, he likes to be in control. Really in control. His oh-so vanilla ex-wife didn’t care for this, and she dumped him, trying to smear his reputation along the way. He’s resigned himself to a life of easy submissives with no strings attached until he hears Monica sing … this is when we enter the underbelly of Reiss’ Los Angeles labyrinth of mystery, love, scandal and sex. He’s her boss, but Monica being Monica challenges him in every way. A love affair ensues and takes over a thousand pages on my iPad, each one more delicious than the next. I don’t have enough space to describe the whole story other than Monica is a gorgeous up-and-coming star; Jonathan’s an animal and sensitive soul. Together they make bliss. (Recommended by Rachel Blaufeld)

Sway by Adriana Locke. Barrett Landry is the mayor of Savannah and running for mayor of Georgia. Alison is a single mom, working two jobs to support her son and make her way through journalism school. Her divorce left her with nothing but a bad taste in her mouth for poor journalism. While she finds the mayor super sexy and enticing, she knows getting involved with him will open her and her son up to the newspapers again. Does she want to risk it? Landry is like a heat-seeking missile when it comes to Alison, willing to shed his playboy ways for the down-to-earth good girl. (Recommended by Rachel Blaufeld)

A Life Reclaimed by Lynley Wayne. A Life Reclaimed picks up where the first book in the Life series, A Life Interrupted, left off. In that one, Travis and Dan were together for 22 years before Travis suffered a sudden brain disorder that wiped out his memory. Move forward to A Life Reclaimed. Travis returns home feeling like he is unable to live up to what Dan wants him to be. He takes off, headed for New Orleans, hoping that distance will help. In New Orleans Travis meets several people who will change his life. These secondary characters, especially LeRoy and Celeste, are critical to the story and help Travis and Dan move forward. I loved both of these books. Lynley Wayne is a talented author, and her books are well worth reading. You will fall in love with Travis and Dan. But bring Kleenex. (Recommended by Becky Condit)
