Olivia Colman's Oscars 'sweet' speech, shout-out to Lady Gaga earn praise

Updated Feb. 25, 2019, 1:23 a.m. ET

In a surprise win, Olivia Colman took home the award for best actress at the Oscars Sunday for her work in "The Favourite" – and her adorable speech won over the hearts of viewers.

"This is hilarious. I got an Oscar. OK. I have to thank lots of people," the actress, 45, began her speech. "If I forget anybody, I'll find you later and give you a massive snog, I'm sorry I might forget now."

Colman also gave a special shout-out to Lady Gaga, a fellow nominee, who was seated right in front of her in the front row.

"Thank you so much," Colman said just before blowing a kiss to Gaga. "Lady Gaga, uh!"

She dedicated the Oscar to fellow nominee (and expected winner) Glenn Close.

“You’ve been my idol for so long – this is not how I wanted it to be," Colman endearingly apologized.

The speech garnered positive reactions on social media.

"Hoping Olivia Coleman’s speech will be on Spotify soon," actress Kate Moennig wrote.

"Can Olivia Coleman please give every #Oscar acceptance speech? One of my all time favorites: sweet, sincere, gracious, excruciatingly funny," CBS This Morning co-host Anthony Mason tweeted.

"Olivia Coleman should win an Oscar for her Oscar’s acceptance speech," another Twitter user said.

"Some people thank God, Olivia Colman thanked Lady Gaga," another tweeted.

"Olivia Coleman should win an Oscar for her Oscar’s acceptance speech," another said.

"I’d watch a whole #Oscars of Olivia Coleman speeches," another said.

"Olivia Colman ending with 'Lady Gaga' was great," another said.
