Medical student and family get emotional learning Match Day result
Ronnie LiA medical student’s magical Match Day moment was captured on camera when she unsealed her fate.
Match Day is a milestone for U.S. medical students, revealing where they’ll train in residency for the next three to seven years.
Match Day 2026 was the largest in National Resident Matching Program history. More than 53,000 students registered, and more than 44,000 residency positions were offered across more than 6,800 program tracks, according to the NRMP.
Tiffany Wong was among the applicants, holding her breath as she opened her envelope, surrounded by her fiancé, family, and friends.
“I could get placed anywhere from the top to the last program on my rank list, which was scary to think about,” Wong said. “Throughout the whole month and a half after submitting rank lists until Match Day, I just continued praying.”

“Opening the letter and seeing my No. 1 program just hit me with a huge wave of joy, gratitude and relief,” she said. The 27-year-old matched with her top-choice pediatrics residency program.
“All my years of hard work getting into and going through medical school culminated in this moment,” she said. “I felt that all my time and dedication had finally paid off.”
