A deployed soldier comes home to the taste of his mom’s tamales
For soldier Michael Angelo Trujillo, the taste of home is priceless.
Growing up in Roswell, New Mexico, Michael was raised surrounded by the sights and smells of his family’s tortilla factory, El Charro Mexican Foods. A true family business, Michael’s childhood face is actually the company logo.
For months, Michael was deployed to the Middle East with the Army National Guard. While his family sent care packages, they could only mail dry goods. He longed for the taste of his mother Mireya’s famous homemade tamales.
When Michael finally returned to New Mexico, his first stop was the family factory.
The moment he took a bite of a fresh tamale, he immediately broke down in tears of joy, overwhelmed by the taste he had missed for so long.
