From deployment to diploma day, watch a sister’s surprise steal the show

A high school senior got a huge graduation day surprise thanks to his big sister.

Milwaukee Lutheran High School graduate Kalen Barksdale hadn’t seen his sister in a year while she served overseas. He didn’t expect to see her at his graduation, but she had other ideas.

As he walked across the stage, staff pretended there was an issue locating his diploma. But it was just a ploy.

“Sometimes the most important deliveries take a little longer than expected, especially when they’re coming from so far away,” the speaker said from the podium.

At that moment, Barksdale’s sister appeared at the back of the auditorium, dressed in her military uniform and ready to present him with his diploma.

“To my brother, I would cross the ocean a million times for you,” she said after taking the mic. “I praise God for bringing me home safely to share this milestone with you.”
