Rapper Beanie Sigel shot in New Jersey
Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel (real name: Dwight Grant) has been hospitalized after being shot on Friday morning, according to multiple reports from the New Jersey and Philadelphia area.
The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. in Pleasantville, N.J., officials tell NBC10.
Sigel, 40, was shot in the torso, reports the Press of Atlantic City.
Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Michael Boren tweeted that police are calling it a "life-threatening injury." The bullet went into Sigel's abdomen and out his back, police said.
It's not the first shooting incident for Sigel, a Philadelphia native, former protege of superstar Jay-Z and devout Muslim, according to Heavy.com.
In 2006, he was shot during a robbery in Philadelphia. Sigel had recently been serving a two-year sentence on federal tax evasion charges. He was released in August to home confinement, reports the Press.
