NBC has added another sitcom to its 2017-2018 lineup. Champions, from executive producer Mindy Kaling, revolves around an ambitionless gym owner (Anders Holm) who suddenly learns he's the father of a teenage boy (J.J. Totah).

Gym owner Vince (Anders Holm, right) has to make room in his life for something other than working out and women when his teen son as (J.J. Totah) is dropped on his doorstep.

The comedy joins two other NBC pickups announced Friday: the virtual-reality thriller Reverie and the dramedy Good Girls.

Here are descriptions:

Sarah Shahi, left, and Dennis Haysbert star in NBC's new virtual-reality-oriented thriller, 'Reverie.'

• Reverie. A former hostage negotiator and human behavior expert (Sarah Shahi, Person of Interest) who becomes a college professor after a personal tragedy finds a way to save herself while helping people lost in a virtual-reality program where they can live out their dreams. Dennis Haysbert (24), Jessica Lu (Awkard.), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes) and Kathryn Morris (Cold Case) also star.

Retta, left, and Mae Whitman star in 'Good Girls,' one of NBC's new drama orders for the 2017-18 TV season.

Good Girls. The "comedy-infused drama" follows three frustrated suburban moms who rob a local supermarket with a toy gun, with one of them being spotted by the manager. When the haul is much bigger than expected, they realize the perfect crime is more complicated than they expected. The cast includes Retta (Parks and Recreation), Mae Whitman (Parenthood), Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly) and Matthew Lillard (Bosch), with Scandal's Jenna Bans as writer and executive producer.

Gym owner Vince (Anders Holm, right) has to make room in his life for something other than working out and women when his teen son as (J.J. Totah) is dropped on his doorstep.

•  Champions. The lives of a gym owner (Anders Holm, Workaholics) and his pretty but dim brother are upended when a former high-school fling (guest star and executive producer Mindy Kaling) drops his teenage son off on his doorstep.
