This recalled power bank could cause a fire. See where it was sold.

More than 200,000 power banks sold on Amazon are under a recall after nearly a dozen fires and injuries were reported in connection with the faulty banks, federal officials said.

In a news release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the INIU 10,000mAh portable power banks are the target of the ongoing recall. Officials said about 210,000 power banks are affected by the recall.

The battery inside the power banks could overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers, the CPSC said. The potential danger of fire has already caused damage to customers across the country.

Federal officials said that INIU had received 15 reports of power banks overheating and 11 reports of fires resulting in three minor burn injuries. Moreover, the fires caused by the batteries resulted in about $400,000 in property damage.

Where were the recalled power banks sold?

The CPSC says the power banks were sold on Amazon between August 2021 and April 2022. The recalled portable power banks have the following serial numbers: 000G21, 000H21, 000I21, and 000L21.

What should you do if you have the recalled power bank?

According to officials, owners of the recalled power banks should stop using them immediately, visit INIU’s recall page to verify the product's serial number and register for a full refund.

Moreover, officials advise customers not to dispose of their power banks in the trash, as this could pose a fire risk. Instead, people should contact their local municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center, which the CPSC says can accept the recalled power banks for their safe disposal.
