Drivers hitting the roads this weekend could see upwards of $5 per gallon at the pump in some parts of the country as effects of the war in Iran continue to reverberate across the U.S.

The national average for a regular gallon of gas is $4.15 as of Friday, April 10, according to AAA.

In places with higher prices, that number is over $5 per gallon. On the low end of the spectrum, some states are around $3.50 per gallon today.

On April 10, the Labor Department released the latest Consumer Price Index for March. The report shows that, compared to the month prior, gas prices spiked 21.2%, the largest monthly increase since record collection began in 1967.

With the Strait of Hormuz – a Middle East waterway critical to the global oil economy – at the center of the war between the United States and Iran, the price of crude oil, and in turn gas, has skyrocketed.

Also, even though the two countries have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, economists say it could take months for gas prices to return to pre-war levels.

Here's a look at the latest gas prices across the country.
