For more than a decade, Georgia stood tall as a dominant force in U.S. film production, earning the nickname “Hollywood of the South.”

The Peach State became the go-to location for major Hollywood franchises, none more influential than Marvel Studios (Trilith Studios).

But now, that era may be ending.

Is Marvel leaving Georgia?

Marvel Studios has begun pulling its productions from the state. Instead, the company is shifting to the United Kingdom, where lower production costs, especially on wages and employee benefits, are giving studios more bang for their buck, according to the Daily Mail.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Georgia saw film and TV production spending plummet by nearly 50% in just three years, dropping from 412 productions in fiscal year 2022 to just 245 in the year ending June 2025.

What does this mean for Georgia film workers?

With the decline in productions, Georgia’s entertainment workforce, estimated to support nearly 20,000 jobs statewide, is taking a major hit.

Trilith Studios, once the crown jewel of Georgia’s film industry, is now seeing stages go unused.

Marvel’s latest Fantastic Four reboot was filmed in London. So too, reportedly, are the next two Avengers films and a future Spider-Man installment.

What Marvel movies were filmed in Georgia?
