Kroger to close Louisville location as part of nationwide closures. Here's where

Cincinnati-based grocery retailer Kroger is closing a location in Louisville.

The confirmed closure of the store at 4211 S. Third St. comes days after the supermarket company announced a plan to close 60 stores across the U.S. over the next 18 months.

"Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close (the) South Third Street store," a Kroger spokesperson told The Courier Journal by email on June 23. "While we are leaving this location, we will offer each impacted associate the opportunity to transfer to a new location. This closure is part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business."

Kroger did not provide details on any additional closures expected to hit Kentucky. Across the commonwealth, Kroger operates 35 stores, The Courier Journal previously reported.

From the nationwide closure efforts, the company said it expects "a modest financial benefit" and will "reinvest" the savings from the closings "back into the customer experience."
