Barnes & Noble opening 30 more stores before end of 2025: See new locations

Barnes & Noble is expanding its physical footprint to reach more readers.

After more than 15 years of declining store numbers, the bookseller expects to open over 60 new locations across the United States in 2025, following a period of "strong sales" in existing stores.

Thirty-four stores — featuring the litany of books, toys, games and gifts customers have come to expect from Barnes & Noble — have opened since the beginning of 2025. Most, but not all, of the newly opened bookstores have a B&N Café.

Another 31 bookstores, some of which are "relocations" of previously closed locations, may be coming to a city near you before December, with Barnes & Noble saying there's "lots more to come in 2026!"

BI Acquisition Co., LLC, an affiliate of Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Inc., also plans to acquire Books Inc., a bankrupt California-based bookseller, for $3.25 million.

"It’s an exciting time for us," Barnes & Noble said in a statement. "Sales in the new stores with their new design and format are exceeding our forecasts, people are lining up around the block for openings and with a strong Fall publishing we expect a great Holiday season."

What states is Barnes & Noble opening stores in next?

In 2025, Barnes & Noble opened bookstores in the following 22 states: Washington, Florida, Colorado, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois, Connecticut, Ohio, Arizona, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Maryland, Tennessee, New Jersey, Kansas and Minnesota.

Some states, like Washington and Connecticut, hosted more than one grand opening.

According to the bookseller, additional stores will open in Washington state, Louisiana, California, Tennessee, Idaho, Florida, New York, Connecticut, Texas, Colorado, Michigan, D.C., Ohio and Pennsylvania. Some states, again, will have more than one location.
