Thanksgiving dinner last year was one of the cheapest with many holding smaller gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, get ready for one of the costliest.

With inflation at a 31-year high and more expected to host big dinners, the holiday meal is getting a price hike.

The price of food at home is up 5.4% over the past 12 months, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday. The latest consumer price index shows an 11.9% increase in the price of meat, poultry, fish and eggs.

There are many reasons for the higher grocery bills, including labor shortages, widespread supply-chain bottlenecks, countless product shortages and strong consumer demand.

USA TODAY is working on stories about how inflation is hitting wallets and we want to know how inflation is affecting you and your family.

What are you shopping for? Have you noticed increased prices at the grocery store and are shelves barer than usual? Have you already bought your turkey?
