You could qualify for store credit in Michael Kors settlement
Melina KhanSome Michael Kors customers may be eligible for a store credit as part of a class action lawsuit settlement.
A 2023 lawsuit levied against Michael Kors alleged the fashion brand made false or misleading advertising claims about discounts in some of its Michael Kors Outlet stores.
According to the settlement website, Michael Kors has denied the allegations and any wrongdoing but has agreed to a settlement, which will be paid out to customers with store credits to avoid going to trial.
A California judge preliminarily approved the settlement in November 2025, but the court will hold a hearing to to give final approval in March.
Notices were sent out to eligible claimants beginning earlier this month, and the deadline to file a claim will be in March.
USA TODAY has reached out to Michael Kors for comment.

Who's eligible for the Michael Kors settlement?
The settlement class, or those who are eligible to receive a store credit, includes anyone nationwide who made a qualifying purchase at a Michael Kors Outlet store from May 10, 2019, to Nov. 14, 2025.
A qualifying purchase is any Michael Kors-branded product purchased at a Michael Kors Outlet store offered at a discount from an advertised reference price.
Michael Kors’ legal counsel and employees cannot be part of the settlement class.
How much money can customers get in Michael Kors settlement?
Michael Kors has agreed to issue store credits, also known as merchandise certificates, to eligible customers.
Each credit can be applied toward a purchase of up to $30 at a Michael Kors Outlet store.
How to file a claim in the Michael Kors settlement
There are two groups of customers in the settlement class. One group has to file a claim to receive their store credit, while the others will receive it automatically.
California or Oregon claimants
- This group includes:
- Customers who are enrolled in Michael Kors' rewards program, KORSVIP, using a California or Oregon address.
- Customers who have made a qualifying purchase at a California or Oregon Michael Kors outlet during the class period.
- These claimants do not need to submit a claim and will automatically receive a store credit.
Other Michael Kors Outlet customers
- This group includes any Michael Kors Outlet customers nationwide who made a qualifying purchase during the class period who do not fit within the above group.
- Nationwide claimants must submit a claim form by March 6 to receive a store credit.

What is the Michael Kors class action about?
In 2023, a group of consumers filed a lawsuit against Michael Kors alleging it engaged in false price-discounting, which is when a seller falsely inflates a reference price for an item that is on sale.
The alleged discounting scheme "improperly leads consumers to believe that they are receiving a discount on their purchases when, in fact, they are not," the settlement agreement says.
Parts of the lawsuit were later dismissed under state laws in New York and New Jersey, but one of the plaintiffs appealed the ruling in early 2025. The other plaintiffs, whose claims were still unresolved, participated in mediation with the company, which led to both sides opting for the settlement, according to the agreement.
