  • Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot on Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University.
  • President Donald Trump and his family will attend Kirk's memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 21.
  • Kirk was a close ally of the Trump family and a co-founder of the conservative group Turning Point USA.
  • Members of the Trump family, including Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, have posted condolences on social media.

President Donald Trump and members of the first family will attend the memorial service for Charlie Kirk on Sunday, Sept. 21.

The 31-year-old Kirk, a close Trump ally, was a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA. On Sept. 10, he was fatally shot by a single bullet in what officials called a "political assassination" while speaking at Utah Valley University as part of his "American Comeback Tour."

Kirk’s ties to the Trump family are many — dating back to the 2016 presidential election, he made a name for himself among the MAGA movement with the younger generation. He appeared with several members of the Trump family during the week of Donald Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025.

Most recently, Kirk’s "American Comeback Tour" had several stops at universities, including in Florida. The conservative influencer, author and radio talk show host was known for debating students who challenged him at an open mic. Though he had a significant fan base, protesters often attended his speaking engagements.

Since his death, there have been nationwide vigils and protests.

"Building a Legacy, Remembering Charlie Kirk" will be at 2 p.m. ET Sunday, Sept. 21, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The funeral will be livestreamed by USA TODAY and USA TODAY Network sites.

Below are condolences about Charlie Kirk from Donald Trump and the extended Trump family.

Donald Trump Jr. and Charlie Kirk

Donald Trump Jr., eldest son of Donald Trump and his first ex-wife, the late Ivana Trump, will be a guest speaker at Charlie Kirk’s funeral.

On the day of the fatal shooting, Donald Trump Jr. posted photos and prayers for the young father of two: “Love you so much brother. Everyone please lift him and his family up in prayer.”

Ivanka Trump and Charlie Kirk

Ivanka Trump, eldest daughter of Donald and the late Ivana Trump, posted on social media site X, “Rest in peace, Charlie.” The first daughter also retweeted a post from her husband, former Trump advisor Jared Kushner.

Kushner’s post says, “Charlie Kirk was a close friend and a special human being. He played a significant role in helping President Trump’s 2016 campaign, building and fostering the MAGA movement. When I was in the White House, established organizations often complained that we kept doing events with Charlie, to which I would reply ‘he comes with big ideas, is easy to work with and always overdelivers.’ To me, Charlie represented the best of MAGA. Firm in his beliefs, compassionate, curious, and respectful. He had huge allotments of courage, charisma, and character. The world lost a powerful force today, way before his time.”

Eric Trump and Charlie Kirk

Eric Trump, youngest son of Donald and the late Ivana Trump, posted condolences on his social media sites for Charlie Kirk and his family. In addition, Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization, announced flags at the family’s extensive real estate sites would fly their flags at half-staff: “Charlie Kirk was an incredible patriot — brave, tough as hell, and a dear friend to our entire family. In his honor, all @Trump properties will fly their flags at half-staff. We will always celebrate his life, strive to make him proud, and pray that God watches over Erika and their precious kids.”

Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump and host of “My View with Lara Trump” on Fox News Channel, shared her feelings about Charlie Kirk’s death. She also memorialized him on her show and her social sites online: “Shocked. Numb. Devastated. And utterly heartbroken for Charlie’s young family. You can feel his beautiful spirit in this picture and it’s how I will always remember him. Charlie, you changed the world — you will be so deeply missed, my friend. 💔”

Tiffany Trump and Charlie Kirk

Tiffany Trump, daughter of Donald Trump and his second ex-wife, Marla Maples, posted an Instagram Story memorializing Charlie Kirk on the day of the fatal shooting. She also reposted tweets from her older brother, Donald Trump Jr., and Pete Hegseth, “Secretary of War.”

Her mother, former model and activist Marla Maples, shared condolences online, too: “Charlie Kirk: He had the courage to listen fully, without fear, and with genuine openness to differing views. That kind of presence is what our world needs now more than ever, to begin healing. We need more voices willing to meet each other this way. Death cannot stop his soul from soaring and his mission will be magnified. 🕊️ Let’s all send radiant heart Light and comfort to Erika, their beautiful children and all those whose hearts are broken today. 🙏 “

Barron Trump and Charlie Kirk

Barron Trump, sole child of Donald and Melania Trump, does not have an active public social media presence online. However, his father shared his son’s reaction to Charlie Kirk’s death: On Sept. 12, Donald Trump appeared on “Fox and Friends” on Fox News Channel. In the interview, Donald Trump said 19-year-old Barron, a sophomore at New York University, was "very hurt" by the killing of the conservative influencer.

"He was very hurt when he saw this, but I mean, everybody was," Trump said during the interview, adding he had set up a lunch meeting for Barron Trump and the conservative activist.

"He came back. He said, 'That guy's great, dad,'" Trump told Fox News. "Charlie had a magic over the kids, and large numbers of them, and very diverse, Black, white. I mean, everybody, the young women and boys, and I’ve never seen anything like it."
