Rumors swirled over the weekend during a momentary absence from President Donald Trump, leaving some people to think he had been admitted to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

White House officials scoffed at the notion, writing on X speculation of the president being hospitalized were just "conspiracy theories."

"There has never been a President who has worked harder for the American people than President Trump," White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said. "On this Easter weekend, he has been working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office."

Here's what to know about Walter Reed hospital, where the president has previously been treated.

Where is the Walter Reed hospital?

The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is in Bethesda, Maryland, about a 15-mile drive northwest from the White House.

It is the country’s flagship military hospital and a key medical facility for service members and federal leaders, earning its name from a former US Army physician whose team helped discover how the yellow fever is transmitted.

The hospital was formerly called the National Naval Medical Center, and locals often refer to it as as the Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Why did people think Trump was at Walter Reed hospital?

There was online speculation Trump was at the hospital during the weekend due to flight restrictions in the area and a viral video that noted there were road closures in the area.

The video, however, was not of the DC area, but rather of Trump leaving a Pennsylvania hospital after he was shot in 2024.

There have not been any photos or video that showed Trump at the hospital over the weekend.

Although Trump was not confirmed at being at the hospital, some members of the military injured during the United States' attacks on Iran had been admitted.

“Wounded and injured Service members supporting Operation Epic Fury have arrived at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland and were transported to military medical facilities for evaluation and follow-on care," hospital officials told WUSA. "We have no additional information to release, at this time.”

Has Trump been to Walter Reed hospital before?

The president receives his physical examinations at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. His checkups are often annual, but he reportedly visited the facility multiple times in 2025.

In 2020, Trump was taken to Walter Reed when he was diagnosed with COVID-19. He announced Oct. 2, 2020, he was diagnosed with COVID, and he was released Oct. 5.
