Is ICE still in NYC airports? Here's what we know
ICE agents may still have a presence in New York City airports following a partial government shutdown that sent TSA lines into chaos for days.
Workers for the agency were sent to airports across the country by President Donald Trump two weeks ago in hopes to supplementing TSA vacancies caused by resignations and call-outs.
Airport TSA workers had gone without pay for weeks, with almost 500 officers quitting during the partial government shutdown as D.C. was unable to come to an agreement on Department of Homeland Security funding.
The employees then began to receive backpay days ago after President Donald Trump signed an order directing DHS to use available federal funds to pay employees.
Here's what we know about ICE agents at U.S. airports.
Is ICE still at airports?
Despite airport lines easing, ICE agents may still be seen by travelers going through security checkpoints.
Although TSA workers began to receive backpay, ICE agents could still be assisting at certain airports due to the amount of employees that quit during the pay blackout period, DHS said.

"President Trump is using every tool available to help American travelers who are facing hours long lines at airports across the country — especially during this spring break and holiday season," a DHS spokesperson told USA Today.
"President Trump is taking action to deploy hundreds of ICE officers, that are currently funded by Congress, to airports being adversely impacted. This will help bolster TSA efforts to keep our skies safe and minimize air travel disruptions."
In March, Border Czar Tom Homan told CBS News that they were "going to continue a nice presence there, and until the airports feel like they're 100%."
"If less TSA agents come back, that means we'll keep more ICE agents there. The President has been clear. He wants to secure those airports."
Is ICE at JFK, LGA airport?
DHS would not say where agents are currently stationed.
"For operational security reasons, we are not going to confirm the locations of our officers," the spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon.
Multiple social media posts by passengers seem to indicate that ICE officials have been spotted at JFK and LGA airport in recent days, however.
The Port Authority, the agency that operates both JFK and LGA, directed inquiries to DHS for the agency's deployment in the airports.
