It's primary season across the country, and after a closely-watched special election to fill a House seat in northwest Georgia, the rest of the state is gearing up to head to the polls in May.

Midterm primaries will be held in Georgia on May 19, with early voting running from April 27 to May 15. The general election will be held on Nov. 3.

The deadline to register to vote in the May primaries is April 20.

Eyes are on the state as Democrats try to take back ground in the state house and keep a seat in the U.S. Senate. The U.S. House seat, formerly filled by Marjorie Taylor Greene and now belonging to Republican Clay Fuller, will also be up for election again in November. The governor's race has been heating up for months, particularly on the Republican side where late entry Republican Rick Jackson continues to make up ground despite going against Trump-endorsed Burt Jones.

Here are the races on the ballot in May.

What are the federal and statewide offices on the ballot in May?

Georgia voters will decide who gets to run for key leadership roles at the federal and statewide level.

Here is a list of races that will be on the ballot in May:

  • One U.S Senate seat, currently held by Democrat Jon Ossoff who is running for reelection
  • All 14 Congressional districts
  • Governor, currently held by Republican Brian Kemp who served two terms and cannot run again
  • Lieutenant Governor, currently held by Republican Burt Jones who is now running for Governor
  • Secretary of State, currently held by Republican Brad Raffensperger who is now running for Governor
  • Attorney General, currently held by Republican Chris Carr who is now running for Governor
  • Commissioners of Agriculture, Insurance and Labor
  • State School Superintendent
  • Public Service Commissioner

What are the legislative and judicial seats up for election?

At the legislative and judicial level, there are both partisan and nonpartisan seats on the ballot.

Here is the list:

  • All seats in the Georgia General Assembly
  • Nonpartisan elections for Justices
  • Nonpartisan elections for appellate judges
  • Local circuit judges across the state

What local elections are on the midterm primary ballot?

While every local election will look a little different, most Georgians can expect to weigh in on elections for their sheriffs, district attorneys, probate court judges, superior court clerks, representation for your school district, city council members and some mayors.

To check what is on your specific ballot for your area, you can use the My Voter Page from the Georgia government website. You can also use this page to see if you are registered to vote, and if not, become registered before the April 20 deadline.

You can view your sample ballot, choosing either "Democratic," "Republican" or "Non-partisan."

For example, on the Democratic ballot in Forsyth County, just north of Atlanta, residents will vote for U.S. Senate, governor, Lt. governor, secretary of state, attorney general, commissioner of agriculture, commissioner of insurance, state school superintendent, commissioner of labor, public service commissioner for district 3, public service commissioner for district 5, U.S House representative for district 7, state senate for district 27, state house representative for district 26, two Justices of the Supreme Court of Georgia, five judges for the appellate court of Georgia, two judges for the Bell-Forsyth judicial circuit, judge of the state court of Forsyth County and answer some questions from the Democratic Party of Forsyth County.

An equivalent sample ballot is available for Republican voters.
