What is a heat wave?
A heat wave is a period when temperatures are atypically high, usually lasting two or more days, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
In the Mid-Atlantic region, heatwaves are usually defined by three or more days of at least 90 degrees.
In some places, like Washington D.C., temperatures are expected to go as high as 90 degrees, although the heat isn't holding on for long.
