Wildfire activity continues across Georgia, though officials say some progress is being made as crews work to contain larger fires.

According to a Tuesday morning update from the Georgia Forestry Commission, firefighters responded to 7 new wildfires Monday, burning about 5.45 acres statewide.

Here's what to know.

Major fires still active

While the number of new fires was relatively low, two major wildfires continue to dominate response efforts:

A member of law enforcement redirects traffic due heavy smoke from the Brantley Highway 82 Fire on April 24, 2026 in Atkinson, Ga. The wildfire is one of many burning in the southeastern United States.
  • Pineland Road Fire: Now estimated at 32,541 acres and 23% contained
  • Highway 82 Fire: Now estimated at 22,615 acres and 6% contained

Officials say both fires remain active and require ongoing resources, even as containment improves in some areas. The Pineland Road Fire was only 10% contained early Monday.

Safety reminders remain in place

Authorities continue urging residents to take precautions:

  • Stay away from active fire areas
  • Do not fly drones near wildfires
  • Watch for smoke reducing visibility on roads
  • Follow all local alerts, including evacuations and closures

Fire crews, first responders, and support teams remain deployed across Georgia as containment efforts continue.
